Ruark MR1 (MK2) – compact active speakers with handcrafted cabinets, Bluetooth aptX for CD-quality sound, and an optical input. The redesigned look, available in walnut or matte gray, combines with precise sound, a Class A/B amplifier, and versatile connection options.

Our Opinion:
Give these active speakers 24 hours to break in, and you’ll be treated to hi-fi sound like that of almost no other desktop speaker. For use in larger rooms, we recommend pairing them with a subwoofer; the Fyne Audio model (Part No. F3-10) is an excellent choice.

The new MR1 Mk2 version retains all the original’s strengths but has been further optimized through a commitment to perfection and valuable feedback from users. While maintaining its compact dimensions, the exterior design has been enhanced for an appealing look. Whether in a classic walnut finish or the new matte gray, paired with a sturdy fabric covering—the design lends itself to versatile use.

In the Mk2 version, three LEDs indicate system status and input, enabling
quick and intuitive operation via the remote control. Bluetooth with the AptX algorithm allows for wireless transmission in CD quality. An optical input is available for easy connection to devices such as Google’s Chromecast Audio. Of course, there’s also an aux input for connecting other signal sources. These speakers are particularly well-suited for flat-screen TVs and deliver significantly better sound quality when used with them. With the MR1 speakers, you can put together a stylish and compact stereo system. Additionally, for greater flexibility, one speaker switches to mono mode when the second one isn’t connected. The BackPack III transforms the MR1 Mk2 wireless speakers into portable devices that can be used anywhere there’s no power outlet—whether on the patio, in the garden, or on the go.

In terms of sound quality, the MR1 Mk2 upholds the high standard already achieved by its predecessors. The drivers, powered by powerful neodymium magnets, are the same, but further improvements have been achieved through enhancements to the amplifier and crossover. The result is a speaker that, despite its compact dimensions, impresses with the dynamic range and precise tonal characteristics one would expect from much larger, more expensive systems.
