The Rega RB Titanium tonearm is the most advanced and accurate production tonearm we have ever made. The entire tonearm structure is designed to have a minimum of mechanical joints, using the stiffest materials in all critical areas. Originally developed to complement our most powerful turntable, the Naia, the Rega RB Titanium is now available as a retail model for the first time.

The Rega RB Titanium achieves near frictionless horizontal and vertical movement with no measurable play in the bearing assemblies. The RB Titanium uses a new one-piece titanium vertical bearing housing and titanium vertical spindle. The design is completed by a tungsten balance shaft and balance weight. The RB Titanium tonearm is packed with new features that push the boundaries of tonearm design. As with all Rega tonearms, each one is carefully hand-crafted by a team of highly skilled technicians.

The Rega RB Titanium uses our highest quality bearings, hand selected to fit the paired spindle on both the inside and outside diameters. This is a method developed by Rega to increase the level of detail on the record surface, maximising tonearm and cartridge performance.

Rega is famous for its tonearm designs. A unique feature of these designs is the almost frictionless movement in both horizontal and vertical directions with no measurable play in the bearings (and in reality a micron or two of preload). So why has Rega invested so much for over thirty years in this area of tonearm design, which involves eliminating even a single micron of play? If you look at a stereo vinyl LP under an electron microscope, you will see microscopic grooves and bumps that the cartridge's diamond stylus scans and reads. The length of a groove depends on its frequency. The height is its amplitude.

In the middle of an LP, a 10kHz signal is only 26 microns long, and if it is very quiet, it can be less than 10 microns high. If your tonearm has 10 microns of play in the bearings (and even very expensive tonearms tend to have much more play and movement), it is difficult to read the bumps, and the musical vibrations are lost in the movement of the tonearm. It is impossible to accurately quantify musical distortion or loss of measured information. This is due to the random nature of the pivot or bearing movement. However, it is easy to see that accurate measurement or tracking of a 10 micron bump is not possible if the stylus can happen to move at least the same distance that it is trying to measure.
